The Boston Terrier is a gentle, friendly, lively, highly intelligent dog. It is a smooth coated, short-headed, compactly built, short-tailed, well-muscled, well-balanced dog breed. The breed has an excellent disposition. Its high degree of intelligence makes the Boston Terrier an incomparable companion. It makes a perfect companion to children and it is easy to train.

Brindle, seal, or black in color with white markings. Brindle is preferred only if all other qualities are equal. (Note: Seal defined, seal appears black except it has a red cast when viewed in the sun or bright light.)

Short, smooth, brilliant and fine in texture. The short-haired coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush and bathe only when necessary. This breed is an average shedder.

The Boston Terrier may have breathing difficulties when stressed by exertion in hot or cold weather and can overheat if it is pushed too hard. It may also snore or drool. Whelping is often difficult as the pelvis is narrow and the large headed pups are often delivered by cesarean section. It is prone to heart and skin tumors, the prominent eyes are prone to injury. To minimize the risk of your Boston Terrier developing any hereditary health issues, you should buy a Boston Terrier puppy from a reputable breeder.  

The Boston Terrier is a gentle, alert, very intelligent, and well-mannered dog breed. This breed has a sense of humor; it’s enthusiastic, occasionally rambunctious. The Boston Terrier is playful, very affectionate and likes to be part of the family. Especially affectionate with children and elderly people, it wants to please.

The Boston Terrier makes an excellent family dog. This breed likes to learn and therefore is easy to train. At times it may be somewhat willful. This little dog may be difficult to housebreak. It is very friendly with strangers. The Boston Terrier is very sensitive to the tone of one's voice. Its intelligence ensures it picks things up quickly.

Boston Terriers generally get along well with non-canine pets. Some males are dominant and may fight with other dogs. The Boston Terrier is very popular in the United States, due above all to its excellent character.

It is good for apartment as well as country living. The Boston Terrier is relatively inactive indoors and does okay without a yard. This breed is very sensitive to weather extremes.
